The Carteret Coalition to Protect Our Shores hired us and Mike Davis Public Relations to help fight the ill-conceived plan that would place, for the first time, dredged material on the beaches and nearshore area of Shackleford Banks, while substantially reducing ongoing beach renourishment efforts at Fort Macon State Park, Atlantic Beach, and other parts of Bogue Banks.
We created Keep Shack Wild as a rallying cry for the opposition.
The effort included establishing a complete identity for the organization in one week. A website, newspaper ads, direct mail pieces, local signage, public relations, and a social media strategy for Facebook and Twitter. The initial effort included getting 300+ people to a public hearing and hundreds to submit comments on the plan. The Facebook audience grew from 0 to 4000 in three months.
This on-going effort continues to make gains with changes to the plan because of public pressure.
